Co-chair of the Global Network of National Focal points on Women, Peace and Security, established at the UN level

In 2023, Romania and the United States of America will hold the co-chair of the Network of National Focal Points on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).
The Ministry of National Defence, national coordinator of the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, ensures the connection with international organizations and manages the activities of national institutions with responsibilities in the field, through the National implementation Group of the National Strategy and the National Action Plan, made up of representatives of: The Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Agency for Gender Equality, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications Service, the Protection and Guard Service and the National Administration of Penitentiaries.
During 2023, conferences, seminars, working groups and a series of high-level events will be organized both in Romania and in the United States of America. Our country’s contribution is focused on detailing the Network operation Guide and creating a set of recommendations on the tasks of the National Focal Points. There will also be several virtual sessions that will cover specific topics in the field.

The Global Network of National Focal Points was established in 2016, at the initiative of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to strengthen the implementation process of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda at the level of the UN member states, by sharing best practices and improving the coordination of funding and assistance programs. The network currently has 95 members and operates under the guidance of the UN, and UN WOMEN provides the Secretariat.
