Bilateral Romanian-American cooperation activities in the field of Woman, peace and security

The Ministry of National Defence, through the Gender Management Office, a structure directly subordinated to the Department for Parliament Liaison and Personnel Welfare, organizes, during December 6-8-22, a series of Romanian-American cooperation activities in the field of woman, peace and security.
The activities organized in the margins of the visit that the delegation of the Alabama National Guard, led by major General Sheryl Gordon, is performing during this period in Romania are the result of the Cooperation Plan agreed at the beginning of this year and aims to analyze the stage of the implementation process of the field, sharing lessons learned and good practices.
The program of joint activities approved to take place during the visit is as follows:
- On December 6, at the National Defence University "Carol I" in Bucharest, will take place the High level Conference: Implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda - progress and ways of cooperation, event attended by the US delegation, representatives of the Parliament, Government, the Romanian diplomatic Institute, The Romanian Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications Service, the University of Bucharest, the National School of political and Administrative Studies, the Protection and Guard Service, as well as other representatives of the academic sector.
- On December 7-8-22, at the Air Force Academy “Henri Coanda” in Brasov, the working Group at expert level will meet to discuss gender perspective in the armed forces, with the participation of specialists of the US delegation, gender counselors from the educational institutions of the Air Force, Instructors and teachers of the Air Force Academy. During the two days, there will be held gender training sessions with the Academy students on topics such as gender perspective integration, gender leadership and perspectives, gender stereotypes elimination, gender equality and equity, etc.
The Women, Peace and Security Agenda provides strong support for women’s equal and non-discriminatory participation in leadership and the process of ensuring and promoting peace and security. The planned activities will provide an excellent opportunity to improve training through the exchange of experience in the implementation of the field, by both partner states.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1.325 on Women, Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325), adopted on 31 October 2000, affirms the important role of women in conflict prevention and resolution, peace negotiations, peace building, peacekeeping, humanitarian action, post-conflict response and reconstruction and stresses the importance of women’s full participation and involvement in all efforts to promote peace and security.
Since 2000, complementary resolutions have been adopted on this issue, forming the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, demonstrating that there is a growing and visible interest in this area at the United Nations level.
