Official meeting of State Secretary Eduard Bachide with representatives of the OSCE

State Secretary and Chief of the Department for Parliament Liaison and Personnel Welfare, Eduard Bachide, met on Tuesday, November 22, at the Ministry of National Defence, with the Special Representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Presidency-in-Office for Gender Equality, Liliana Palihovici. She was accompanied by Lara Scarpitta, a gender adviser at the OSCE Secretariat.
The official visit to Romania of the OSCE representative takes place in the context of the war in Ukraine, the situation of women refugees from Ukraine being an essential topic of the agenda of meetings with the representatives of the Romanian state.
State Secretary Bachide underscored that, following the Russian Federation’s aggression on Ukraine, in Romania, all necessary measures were taken to address the Ukrainian refugee crisis also from a gender perspective, by respecting the civil and humanitarian nature of the camps, even from the design phase of these facilities, in accordance with Pillar IV relief and Recovery in Resolution 1325 Women, Peace and Security.
Other topics discussed during the meeting between the two officials were the integration of the gender perspective in military operations, measures to combat sexual abuse and the implementation of the provisions of the UN Security Council resolutions in the field.

The Ministry of National Defence is composed of the Gender Management Office, established in order to coordinate the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1.325 – “Women, Peace and Security”. The head of this office was designated a National Focal Point for Women, Peace and Security in Romania.
