30.10.2022

On Monday, 31 October, 22 years have passed since the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1.325 (2000) “Women, Peace and Security”, a landmark document expressing concern for civilians, especially women and children, in armed conflicts.

This resolution is the first to be approved by the Security Council that directly targets the impact of war on women and the contribution of women to conflict resolution and the achievement of a stable peace.

The Ministry of National Defence, through the Gender Management Office, directly subordinated to the Department for Parliament Liaison and Personnel Welfare, assumed the role of coordinator at national level of this field, ensuring the function of National Focal Point.

To mark this event, Romania has launched the National Strategy and the National Action Plan on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1.325 (2000) “Women, Peace and Security” for the period 2020-2023, approved by Government Decision no. 561/2020.

In this way, the MOD reiterates the important role of women in conflict prevention and resolution, peace negotiations, peacebuilding and peacekeeping, humanitarian response and post-conflict reconstruction, and stresses the importance of women’s full participation and involvement in all efforts to ensure and promote peace and security.
